Developed Products

The high diversity of natural resources found within Zimbabwe’s communal areas and the equally diverse rural livelihood activities suggests that there is a range of opportunities that can be derived from their management and utilization. Food stuffs, beverages, fuels, construction materials, medicines and crafts are a few of the forest products that communities already derive from the forests. SAFIRE is one of the few environmental NGOs in Southern Africa that have made successful attempts to commercialise some of these livelihood activities including community-based natural resources management as a key activity in the development of enterprises.

SAFIRE has also facilitated market linkages between the community based enterprises and major market players like Phytotrade and Speaciality Foods of Africa.

SAFIRE has facilitated the development of products which include herbal teas, masau jam, baobab pulp and oil, marula jelly and oil, mazhanje by-products, kigelia extract and honey.
